Caffè Musica is honored to present Seattle jazz legend Ray Skjelbred with Jacob Zimmerman, Saturday, January 19th, 7:00-9:00pm - $10.00 cover. When you hear that a musician is a musician's musician, you are sure to see and hear something special. This promises to be one of those nights.
Ray Skjelbred is a pianist - a jazz legend brought up in Chicago with strong Chicago and New Orleans influences - early swing and plenty of blues. We are lucky enough to have him now call Seattle his home. The International Association of Jazz Record Collectors Journal said, " For small-group Chicago-style, it doesn't get any better than this." We agree.
Saxophonist and clarinetist Jacob Zimmerman claims Skjelbred as a mentor, and it's obvious he has studied well. Zimmerman was recognized as the “2013 Emerging Artist of Year” by Earshot Jazz and he hasn't stopped there. He is an extremely versatile and integral part of the local creative - music community. He studied music at the internationally renowned Garfield High School, the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and Mills College in Oakland. His teachers have included Roscoe Mitchell, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Morris and Anthony Coleman. Zimmerman’s playing channels the spontaneous melodic spirit of Ray and his other heroes: Bix Beiderbecke, Lester Young and Lee Konitz. We hope you can join us for what will surely be a world-class dynamic musical encounter.
